Police Superintendent Jailed for Stealing, Instituting Jungle Justice Against Struggling Businessman

Barclayville City, Grand Kru County: Barclayville Magisterial Court on October 25, 2022 charged and forwarded to Court Grand Kru County Crime Services Division Superintendent Maxwell Tarwily for theft of property, burglary, criminal trespass and false Imprisonment.

According to a writ of arrest in possession of Punch, the Grand Kru Crime Services Division Superintendent’s charge follows an alleged criminal act meted against struggling businessman in Barclayville.

It can be recalled that Superintendent Tarwily was accused of robbing businessman Charles Toe of over US$1,000, in addition to LD440,000 including other valuable items.

The Barclayville Magisterial Court charged sheet is quoted as saying, “the CSD officer made away three pieces of car batteries valued at LD$15,000.00; two pieces of solar plates valued at US$360.00; two pieces of flat-Screen TVs valued at US$250.000; three pieces of inverters valued at LD$33,000.00; three of computer sticks valued at US$30.00; one bag of 25kg rice valued at LD$3,300.00.

Other items listed on the charge sheet included one set of carpenter tools; one medium-size cooking stove; one set of masonry tools; five grosses of cigarette valued at LD$1,300.00; half cartoon of Green Top gin valued at LD$6,000.00; half cartoon Zed Liquor valued at LD6,000.00; three packs of chewing gum valued at LD300.00; and five packs of finger-size batteries value at LD$400.00.

The charged-sheet stated further victim/complainant Charles Toe was kept in police detention for six days without sending him to court for prosecution. Toe said was emotionally shocked as a result of the failure of police authorities to send the matter to court. 

Meanwhile, Superintendent Maxwell Tarwily has been forwarded to the Grand Kru 12th Judiciary Circuit Court by the Barclayville Magisterial Court, pending court trial.
