Gbarnga, Bong County, January 4, 2023: It was a joyful day on New Year in Gbarnga as citizens in the north-central region danced and sang praises to Bong County District #5 Representative and senatorial-hopeful Edward W. Karfiah, as if it was a church occasion. But the celebratory mood of Bongese was actually occasioned by the groundbreaking of light poles and the subsequent electrification of over 30,000 households in Gbarnga for the first time since the end of the 14 years civil war in Liberia.

As electricity is an essential part of modern life and important to the economy, the provision of electricity will impact the lives of Bongese most especially local business owners in the areas of lighting, heating, cooling, and refrigeration, and for operating appliances such as computers, electronics, machineries, while serving as security during night hours.

The US $150k initiative is being executed through Jungle Energy Power Group of Companies, responsible for the distribution of energy to households in the Central region, with support from Edward W. Karfiah.

Making remarks at the project commencement in Gbarnga on Sunday January 1, 2023, Representative Edward W. Karfiah asserted that the initiative is part of his efforts to lighten the homes of citizens who can barely afford electricity in their respective homes.

He told the gathering of joyful citizens of Gbarnga that electricity is a major component of the security sector, and the need to provide such assistance for the people of Bong cannot be overemphasized.

During the ceremony, the Bong County senatorial aspirate made available a new transformer, as well as light poles, as part of efforts to jumpstart the electrification project in Chief Compound Community in Gbarnga.

Accordingly, the US$150,000 project will benefit six communities during Phase One of the initiative.

For their part, community leaders and residents applauded the Bong County lawmaker for the bold step taken, noting that the initiative will help restore security in the various communities.

They vowed to canvas for him across the nooks and crannies of the county to ensure his victory in the 2023 Bong County Senatorial elections.

The occasion was also graced by Bong County District #2 Representative James M. Kolleh, as well as Attorney George Mulbah and Tokpah J. Mulbah, former lawmakers of electoral districts #1 and 3 lawmakers, who cautioned the citizens to elect someone in October 2023 who has the requisite experience to improve livelihood of the citizens in the county.
